Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Manjit Birk
18 runners, 7 first timers ran 4km to the Jubilee River Riverside Centre to spruce it up.
Great to see new runners join us this week for our first visit to the Jubilee River...and huge kudos to Sut Yee who had just run her first half marathon on Sunday and was out again for our session on Monday Super Trooper ! A warm welcome to Jo, Michelle, Liz, Ciaran, Sandy, Emily and Harsha on their first Group Run and good deed, the rest of the team are becoming regulars now (3 weeks in and 3 Group Runs completed)
Keep up!
After a competitive warm up game we did a quick 2km dash to the centre as everyone was keen to get to work. We were welcomed by Jamie the Centre Manager who gave us the brief, the surgical gloves, the pickers and the bins and told us to get to work in the politest possible way. And of course, as predicted Ricky went straight for the tool
Admiration
The sun was starting to set and was shimmering on the river, but we didn't have time to stand around and admire the scenery (although one of our new comers Ciaran did do just that!)....The team got to work and filled that big blue bin right to the top....
Lets get Trollied
Rivers and supermarket trolleys don't really go hand in hand so we had great pleasure in seperating them (sorry trolley)... some other undesirables were also discovered and permanently removed (anyone missing red pants?)... 18 people cleared a whole load of rubbish in just 30 minutes... the Centre car park looked unrecognisable by the time the GoodGym team had worked their magic. Once again showing how much can be achieved by a few eager runners in just 30 minutes.
Crab crawls and hill sprints anyone?
What better way to end the session than with a hill sprint relay! Well done to team Harsha and Emma for winning that one.....After a great session everyone wanted a crawl....they were probably thinking pub crawl but Manjit was thinking crab crawls up the hill . We shell get fit
Once again, thank you to everyone who came out this evening to make the 3rd GoodGym Group Run a great session. Jamie really appreciated our efforts and the pictures speak for themselves on how much better the area looked after your efforts.
Next week we are back helping the Parvaaz Project (a short 3km total run)....Hope you can make it.
Thanks Manjit
