The pilot run

The task tonight was with a new task owner…the Slough Royal Force Air Cadets. I made contact with them a few weeks ago via Twitter and within a couple of weeks had 2 tasks lined up and a team eager to FOXTROT over to their unit in Wexham.

With the NOVEMBER rain back in force our 14 sign ups soon dwindled to 8…well done to Roisin, Jean, Pam, Naomi, Sara, Sandy and Anna also known as CHARLIE, JULIET, MIKE, OSCAR, ROMEO, INDIA AND VICTOR!…for braving the elements and coming out tonight.

With this being Anna first ever Goodgym session, we did our introductions and asked the all important question

How did you hear about us?

To our surprise, Anna told us she saw us at the Activity Centre last week when she was booking her sons birthday party! Liked what she saw…googled us and decided to come join in tonight!

We were then nearly ready to head out but not before the all important safety brief and task overview…always a KILO of info to give before we set off as we have to make sure we land safely!

The crew, in their red UNIFORM...did a DELTA job of the warm up before heading out into the monsoon rain..

Attention! My puns never take off…

On arrival we met Luke, one of the Unit Leaders and after signing in, he gave us an overview of the tasks at hand.

We quickly glided into smaller groups and got to work sprucing up the classroom areas.

Mama PAPA who was on a covert celebration today (which I’m not allowed to mention…all I can say is that is has the word happy in it)…bought some Ferrero Rochers with her…which we just GOLF’d down in one hit! We then got to work on sprucing up the room.

Sara was so hot and steamy she needed her glasses for her X-RAY vision. Spectacles all sorted, she was ready to wipe down.

Anna and Naomi were on wall duty and had their section looking gleamy, whilst Sandy cut her areas down like a pro…

Pam and Jean certainly know how to roll with it and had their section looking like a HOTEL

All in all we really did have to give ALPHA selves an applause (getting worse I know!)

We did such a great job that Luke has told us to QUEBEC next week (nope…it just hit rock bottom)

Task complete, we were ready to run back to base. What a busy night we had tonight, however not as busy as the police…all we heard tonight were sirens…those SIERRA calls were coming in thick and fast!

WHISKEY for Fifty?

These 50’s are all creeping up on us…Sara reached her 50 milestone a couple of weeks ago at the launch of Goodgym Windsor and Maidenhead. She must have thought we’d forgotten about it but oh no! Just like an elephant…I never forget…so out came the ZULU tutu and the nifty fifty homemade signage… Aren’t you glad it takes a long time to get to 100! Just wait to see what tat I have LIMA’d up for that one…

So Sara…here is your limerick…pretty sure the quality of these are going downhill…but oh well, I cant be YANKEE doodle do at everything….

  • There once was a lady called Sara

  • Who is more at home with her tool belt over mascara

  • She’s become our jeffing Queen

  • With her run/walk technique on caffeine

  • She’s a perfectionist at heart

  • With her attention to detail, she always plays her part

  • A pleasure to have on the team

  • Just can’t wait for Easter so she can have ice-cream!

That tutu also gave Sara some serious running power! She was flying tonight! Well done!

Next week we are back with the Air Cadets – see you then

PS – Yes I did manage to use every phonetic call sign!
