Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alex Eggs
It was a late change of task this week with our visit to Whitechapel postponed for a few weeks (check it out on the event page!), we instead went north-west along the canal to London Fields where we were greeted by the local residents at the Shrubland TRA. It was the first time we'd visited this task, and it was also the first time for a few very welcome new GoodGymmers Nina & Julia.
After a jogging guided tour of the beautiful community vegetable plots, we were shown to our task for the evening which was to shift 25 heavy bags of soil across the street to be used by the community Gardening Club. A task which would otherwise have taken the TRA several days was completed in a little over half an hour by our 18-strong team of do-gooders. There were some fantastic techniques and examples of teamwork in shifting the bags, as well as some entertaining wheelbarrow and cart driving. After the task, the head of the residents association gave us a quick history of the plots which was fascinating to hear, especially with the input of residents who had been living there for over 40 years!
After we bid farewell to the wonderful task owners, we headed back along the canal to Victoria Park where we did the first of our new monthly 1-mile Time Trial (see times in the photo reel, expertly recorded by our timekeeper, Sam). Let's see if we can beat our times next month! Thanks again for a lovely task and also all the best to GGTH Task Force member & GG legend Bryon on tying the knot this week (hence the run report pun 😆). Look forward to seeing you all at the next task!
