Two tasks

This week we were doing the do for two Haringey not for profits, Bruce Grove Youth Centre and Friends of Tottenham Green. The indoor task has limited space so we needed to split the group in two. The tasks included painting and some light gardening and a little litter picking.

Task one

After Ollie aka the high five guy aka Ed the duck being presented with his wings (for his 100th good deed) we were off again into the night – but before I go on click here to give Ollie a cheer for all the goodness he’s bestowed on Haringey and its community projects. OK, now you’re back (you better have gone), I’ll carry on... My group was heading off down to Bruce Grove again while Dashing Dave and his group headed over to FoTG (the long way). Our run down to the youth centre was a pleasant one and on arrival we got straight to it... Shifting the furniture out of the room before splitting into groups, with one cutting in the paintwork and tackling the ceiling and the other painting the corner of the room. It’s actually more of a rounded alcove than a corner and kind of reminded me of playing tricks on some of the smaller children I used to work with, showing them a circle and asking them to point out the corners. I’m not really cruel... promise.

The ladies in the group were tasked with sorting out the alcove and steamed through it, giving the entire wall a good coat. The lads did pretty good too with all that delicate cutting in and painting of the ceiling. We chatted away about lots but I do remember slightly gushing about my little (big) sister who I love dearly. One or two others had a little gush too so I didn’t feel too silly. With all that gushing, hard work and some laughter we totally lost track of time and our window of opportunity had slipped away for another week, but not before one of the centre's young people befriended us – and what a happy warm character he was. Oh, and there was a quick game of pool too, well a few shots at least.

After running a short distance back to the Town Hall at Tottenham Green, we rejoined the other group...

Task 2

Heading west gave us the chance to take advantage of the quieter, wider roads in the first km to add a bit of interval work into our run to Tottenham Green. Setting off with a gentle pace, we played Indian File. If you're at the back of the group, you have to sprint to the front, and slow down again!

Once we got to Tottenham Green, we split into three teams: one to smooth out the bed we dug up last; one to plant tiny spring bulbs around the border; and one to collect litter and the last of the autumn leaves.

The most interesting finds from the litter picking were one sock, one shelf rail (where are the other ones of these?), and 10 Hungarian Forints.

As our time came to end, everyone gathered in for one last blitz on the leaves and we filled and extra half sack. That done, it was back round the block to rejoin the rest of the GGH crew for a fitness session.

The Fitness session

Reunited, the whole group got stuck into a nippy little fitness session then headed back to base for some stretches and more giggles.

Shouts out to Dashing Dave for the support... always much appreciated!!
