15 awesome runners ran 3km to hang out with the young people at the Christchurch Youth Cafe!
It was the hottest GoodGym of the year so far which is great because everyone can wear their GG T shirts without covering up with a jacket, myself included! So it was lovely to see a big sea of red last night!
We welcomed two new runners to the group, Victoria and Sarah who, as it turns out, both knew each other from uni...! Small world eh?? Hope you had a nice first run with us ladies!
We went round the circle, talked about our favourite things about summer.... barbeques, beer gardens, baby animals.... lots of nice things to look forward to! Hope you can all enjoy this nice weather over the weekend and come out and cheer for the London marathon - sorry another plug but it really is THE best day of the year, I'm almost gutted I'm not cheering, the atmosphere is ELECTRIC!!!
Anyhoooo, we were under a little bit of time pressure so we skipped the warm up and headed straight for the church to meet Rev Andrew. It was a bit of a mysterious task, we didn't know how many young people there would be, or how old they were or exactly what we were doing. All we knew is that they attacked us with snowballs a couple of months back.... so understandably we had our guard up! But thankfully we outnumbered them this time mwahahaa!
We went into the hall, there were a bunch of games going on... table tennis, pool, giant jenga... LOADS of fun to be had! Everyone got stuck in with something, perhaps slightly reluctantly but the integration began! It might not have felt like your average Good Deed but it was great for the young people to meet new people and experience things to take them out of their comfort zone a little bit.
Take me to church!
At 7.30, it was time to pack everything away and get the room ready for church! There was a very strict seating plan which needed to be adhered to so it was all hands on deck. Everyone grabbed some chairs and began arranging them into formation.
Apparently it usually takes half an hour for them to do this part by themselves, but it took us a mere 5 minutes! BOOM!
We took a nice photo and headed back out to extend the run a little bit. We went through the park, up a tiny bit of a hill but then the reward running down the hill into the sunset far outweighed any struggle and effort going up it! SUCH a beautiful evening. We did a few loops up and down just to get a bit more distance in and then we headed back to the uni for some CORE!!!
The weather has been too bad to do anything on the grass recently but last night there were no excuses! We did 3 core exercises, 3 rounds of 30 seconds each followed by a nice stretch to finish off. And then Chan & Rob had a splits competition....! Ouch.
Thanks for coming last night! Next week we are shovelling more gravel at Christchurch school so please join us!
