Friday evening is Goodgym evening at the Community Allotment. The rain had done our watering task for us, but we had some thinning out to do. The young Grenadier apple trees are laden with lots of small fruits, which, if allowed to develop, will be too heavy for the young branches. We removed the majority of the tiny fruit, leaving just a single apple from each cluster. This should ensure the trees continue to develop strongly Jess was in fix-it mode today, adding water to the small pond so that the solar-powered fountain went from a small dribble to a proper water spout. She then noticed that the pumpkin container was flooded and didn't have sufficient drainage. 4 holes were quickly made, and the excess water left to drain away. A quick selfie in our new Goodgym caps, and we said our Goodbyes. Jess was off to run her socks off at Endure 24 and Sheila off to walk the Pembrokeshire coastal path

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
