Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alex Eggs
What a marvellous night for a group run! Basking in the gorgeous June sunshine, our group of 24 GoodGymmers headed off to the Phytology Nature Reserve in the Hollybush Estate, with the aim of regaining pavement space from the leaf clutches of trees and plants protruding from the Reserve's railings. The team spread out along the 150m perimeter and, with secateurs & loppers, did a fantastic job of making the railings look tremendously tidy - not a leaf out of place! Once the leaves & branches had dropped, Sam, Beth, Lianne & Suzi to name a few, were there to swoop in and barrow the remains to the compost heap within the reserve, which will be used to help cultivate the medicinal herbs within the garden for months to come!
After the task we headed off to Haggerston Park for a few fartlek and meet & retreat runs around the woodchip trim trail. We then headed back along the canal to enjoy the scenery beneath the setting summer sun.
Welcome to new-comers Ben, Jess, Parham, Adam, Alys, Sig & Beth!
It was great to have so many newcomers along, and we're all looking forward to seeing you again! Don't forget to visit each other's GoodGym profiles to celebrate your good deeds & see what other great tasks people have been up to. As promised in the post-run stretches, I've included the Tower Hamlets Olympic flag from Saturday. Thanks to all those who contributed & hopefully you can spot your designs in the collage!
Next week, the wonderful Ben Parkes will be taking the session in a local park on the Regents Canal. Have a good week & happy running!
