20 GG Southwark sensations, got it all wrapped up this week when we gifted our time to a worthy cause in Southwark! hurrah!
It was a full house in Peckham when the doors opened this Wednesday evening and I'm pretty certain it had to do with the awesome task that we had on offer to us this week - Wrapping 120 Christmas presents for local children from the Aylesbury estate.
Already dressed in our festive GG Red we couldn't wait to get into more of the Christmas spirit, so we got to stepping and HO HO Hauled ass quick smart.
But with the reindeers not quite ready, (it's still only November after all) we had no choice but to set off on foot, chasing down the 2.5mile jaunt up to our destination for the eve: Burgess Park's Giraffe House Center.
Upon our arrival it was a warm welcome we received from our hosts Charlotte and Vernon, who were representing the organisation 'Creation Trust' the oh so wonderful people who coordinate this amazing cause, among their other admirable community outreach work.
Vernon and Charlotte described the task at hand which was to carry a tonne of Xmas goodies up the stairs and wrap them up all pretty, ready for Santa's grotto.
So, quickly into work we ploughed like a frenzy of little elves, with only one difference, we had just 30mins to wrap the mountain of goodies for the local kids, not all year!!! Eeekk there was no time to lose!
So, to maximise our precious time, we formed a production line, carrying the haul from the bottom to the top of the stairs, then splitting into teams of boy gift wrappers and girls. With an awesome amount of gusto the team got straight to it. Cutting, wrapping, sticking and chucking the finished delights into the mounting piles ready for Santa's sleigh. YAY.
Even though we were working hard, the task it's safe to say was just tooooooo much fun. So much so in fact, that we didn't even realise how fast the time was flying by.
And as those final minutes ticked away, the clock finally chimed out the last of our time and reluctantly we placed down our scissors and tape and admired our successful efforts. As our eyes perused the beautiful array of glistening paper, we couldn't wait for the joy they would bring, to all the local children soon to be ripping them open on Christmas eve!!
After tasking we hit the streets once more and cruised our last couple of miles, back through the calm and misty surroundings of the park and back up into the twinkles of Peckham Rye again, ready for home.
What a festive affair, with friends we did share. Gifting our time, was utterly sublime!!
See you next time familia!!!
