Happy Birthday GoodGym Worthing - Lettuce celebrate!
52 short weeks later and here we are celebrating our first Birthday !
We are a small group of regulars who are totally committed to what we love doing every Monday evening. The last year has been one of the best and happiest of my life. There hasn't been a single Monday night ( Come sun , wind, rain ,cloud, mist, pea soup, drizzle, rain ,sleet, hail or snow) where I haven't been excited about combining my love of running with doing good deeds within the community of Worthing.
Special mention to Belinda this evening who, despite struggling with a knee injury, arrived on her bike proudly wearing (and totally owning) her black tee shirt on her 51st good deed . Wow! What an incredible achievement this is and a total credit to our inspirational worthing resident who has also recently reached her 100th parkrun milestone . Belinda is a perfect example of the synergy between the GoodGym and parkrun special relationship that works so well and that often causes the biggest wardrobe dilemma of ' Which tee shirt do I wear today ?!' How good does black look good on you B ! I know that you really did enjoy flashing your new apparel this evening.
Tonight it was also so good to see Duncan ( instigator of GG Worthing ) Roisin , Anne and Ros at our 'one night only' meeting point of Worthing Leisure Centre before heading of on a short 1 mile warm up run to The Tyne Centre to support Breathing Spaces on our second task with them with their 'creating paths' project.
This is how we roll
After a chatty 1 mile warm up we arrived at our task to be met by Claire and Lisa from Breathing Spaces who quickly got us started on our second task of barrowing , raking and rolling sand pathways in a small courtyard garden around the back of the centre
We all mixed and matched the jobs of barrowing , raking and rolling the sand with everyone taking a turn at each. We spent slightly longer than normal on the task as none of us wanted to leave an unfinished job ! When we finished I think its fair to say we all felt significant job satisfaction.
"Those were some enjoyable burpees" said no one ever
We headed directly back to the leisure centre and said a cheery goodbye to Belinda on her trusty bike.
We took full advantage of having the running track to train on. The group combined a deadly mix of sprints with recovery squats and 10 burpees . We repeated this fitness game 6 times with a whopping 20 burpees on the final round. Duncan got the glory leg of a final 400 metres around the track as a prize for finishing his burpees first!
Thank you Michelle for setting the 70 burpee challenge today ! Your fellow runners were very grateful :)
Next week we will run, do good, eat, drink and be merry!
It would be fantastic to have a full turn out to welcome back the prodigal child Beth back to the borough for our official celebrations at Chipwick after the run and task at 7:45 pm.
Also don't forget the inaugural Lancing College 10k on Sunday 25th March where GG Brighton and Worthing will meet each other in the middle of the county! https://www.lancingcollege10k.co.uk/
Have a great week everyone
