Do you know that bit in the original Jumanji when Robin Williams comes out of the board after being trapped for years and he's just frantically trying to reacquaint himself with the real world? Well, in many ways that's the energy that 11 keen volunteers brought to the proceedings on Sunday as they lent a hand to the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve

We joined Luke from the WBNR to help get the site ready to come out of its cocoon once lockdown restrictions allow in the next few weeks.

The session started with Kapil putting two young GG-trainees through their paces with a very fun burpee session.

Our main task for the day was putting the letters painted kids in the community (tbt to a previous mission) back up on the fence. They are meant to spell WESTBURY BANKS NATURE RESERVE and they have been sorely missed in this corner of North London.

We couldn't get started straight away, as we came down with a bad case of missing-cable-ties-itis but at least that meant we got a chance to do some ad hoc gardening. Nurjehan and Kapil were joined by the aforementioned young trainees in a litter pick of the site, whilst the rest of the team took care of a recently-planted flower bed that needed some love.

And before you could say 'oof, it's actually a bit chilly for this,' Luke was back on site with a new batch of cable ties and we got on with the job at hand. After a good 30 minutes of hustle, the WESTBURY BANKS sign was back up where it belongs and it looks beautiful.

Alas, we couldn't put up the whole of the name as one the Rs went walking, leaving a big Rs-hole in our Nature. No matter, I've had some good news come through this morning that the missing R has been located so we'll be back on site in a couple of weeks to complete the job.

Bing bang bong!

Help locals create a nature reserve

"The Westbury Banks Nature Reserve is a community lead project to transform derelict land into a nature reserve. All work on the site is on a voluntary basis and the management of the site is done free of charge! There are big plans to install a storage unit for the equipment, a mural, a log path with wood chipping, a pond for amphibious for wildlife and a grand insect hotel

Title report is GENIUS: 'Rs hole'! 😜 Mini GGymers bring joy to us. Especially when they freely give away family secrets.
