Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by James Poole
On a slightly chilly Wednesday evening, 11 of GoodGym Newham’s finest runners headed to Cody Dock to water planters and ran 7km in the process. Go team go!
With GG Newham Trainer, Brahma, away on holiday in Spain the team welcomed James the trainer from nearby Redbridge. Also in town was GG tourist and legend-in-her-lunch time Deborah Redmond from Bristol who in typical style was collecting her London Marathon race bib and throwing in a GoodGym run for good measure. Way to go Debs.
With intros done it was time to head up the canals and rivers of East London to Cody Dock where the team would be helping out with the transformation of this project to revitalise the East End.
Cody Dock sits in between London's new cable car, Canary Wharf and the Olympic Park. Built in the 1870s, it slipped through the cracks of east London’s regeneration, lying abandoned and sealed off for decades. Thanks to the amazing work from volunteers is has been transformed into an oasis of calm and tranquility. If you are in the area check it out.
With only one water butt available, watering was a little slow going so the team invented fitness drills to keep them warm – the favourite seemed to be “Watering Can Lunges” - see pictures for evidence.
With the good deeds done and the light fading all that was left to do was to head back along the river back to the Olympic Swimming Pool for some warm down stretches.
Well done also to Rowena for making her first GG run and task. Hope to see you at another soon!
Another great task complete by GG Newham and another happy task owner! Fancy joining next week? You can check the task out here.

Thank you Newham (and James) for being so welcoming. That's a lovely run route you have there and Cody Docks was a fascinating place to visit. I just so happen to really enjoy a spot of plant watering too so a total win-win for me. Sorry I missed Brahma but hey, I've got another reason to return. x
