Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
On Friday at 11 o’clock I met up with volunteers from around Wilton Square to move 14 tonnes of steaming compost from the kerbside to around the neighbouring garden.
Wilton Square is in fact a triangle of public garden enclosed by railings and bordered with rose bushes and 100 year old trees.
With shovels, wheel barrows and rakes we transferred the compost to the borders and lawns of Wilton Square.
The compost was in fact from Islington originally in the form of food and garden waste, we did find at least a dozen shredded knifes and forks!
After five hours we had the gardens covered with warm rotting compost, leaching all the nutrients into the soil and plants.
The road was swept and each one of us had moved several tonnes of fertilising goodness back to the land to bring next spring into bloom.
