Week two of two helping out Tom and this time we were off to Palace Road Nature Gardens, a lovely wild paradise in the Tulse Hill / Streatham area.

We were delighted to have Charlotte back with us for this one after a little hiatus, welcome back Charlotte!

Only 4 of us this evening so along with Tilly and Michael we set off from Papa's heading straight up Brixton Hill for decent 3km to the park. Michael and Charlotte were setting a good pace so forged on ahead and Tilly was kind enough to hang with AA Yianny all the way up the hill to our destination.

Tonight's task was simple (but never ending) we were helping Tom fight back against the Bindweed and prune back the lush growth which was threatening to take over the pathways around the pond. Given the recent weather lots of rain and bright sunny spells between the foliage was rampant and plenty of prickles were bedded in with the weeds making for a spikey game of weed-pull-roulette!

By just after 8pm we had cleared two small sections but there was plenty still to go so potential for plenty of follow up missions over the summer.

Conversation at the end turned to the GoodGym website (we love you GG web we really do) and favourite tub ice cream and also the crime of putting flavoured (i.e. not vanilla) with a pie or a crumble. I think we can all agree on that ;0)

Thanks to all and see you next week when you will be led by superstar Run Leader Joao while AA recovers from his marathon event this weekend - see you there!

Palace Road Nature Gardens
A wild oasis in Streatham

This small nature garden was created in the 1980s. It provides a varied habitat of both an open grassland and a wooded area of exotic and native trees. The pond attracts dragonflies and damselflies flying above and frogs and newts swimming below. Gerry always needs a hand to keep the paths clear of brambles and weeds and to make sure the public space can be enjoyed by everyone.
