24 GoodGymers ran 5-6km and helped the Single Homeless Project

Another Monday, another load of good in Islington! Thanks for coming all :)

In the news this week:

  1. Our last run is on 11th December, first run back will be Thursday 4th January and from 8th January we’ll be back to normal on Monday’s for the year.
  2. Well done and thank you to Nina and Meg who hit 50 GOOD DEEDS last night - 50 sessions of good, getting fit and helping their communities. Well done guys! #proud #cheers
  3. Don’t forget GG Islington Xmas Party on 11th December and GG Members Xmas Party on 8th December.

After a quick warm up we headed to two sites in the Canonbury area to help the Single Homeless Project prepare their green spaces in planting tree’s.

The Single Homeless Project, is a London-wide charity working to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. Each year they help 8,000 people - which is amazing! They regularly use their garden spaces for counselling and other services, that’s why we are so key!

Huge impact!

After splitting into two groups to tackle the two sites, my group arrived at the Highbury New Park to find out that the ground had asbestos and was closed off. We couldn’t do the task so headed to join the other group.

The task was split into three sections:

  1. Digging three 50cmx50cm holes for tree's to be planted by the residents.
  2. Clearing, sweeping and collecting up 10 bags of leaves which we then emptied into the compost bins.
  3. A team of five lifted, manoeuvred and carried the a huge tree through the building.

Upon finishing our task we headed into the night and on our way home we did a 1km (tad less) time trial around Highbury Fields. Great work all - nice speed!

During the stretches we handed out chocolate digestives and talked about our double tasks next week, sign up here.

PB out.
