60 minute garden task in Lewisham
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Lewisham.
- Saturday, 25th of March 2017
Louisa and I met bang on 11am outside Ms C's place. We knew the road well having visited Crofton Books Library for many a painting themed GG group run. Ms C greeted us, explaining how she suffers with mobility and cares for her disabled husband, so really needed the assistance in the garden.
She showed us through to a smallish garden at the back. It had a flower bed running down the side, with patio and lawn in the main. It was a mess! We quickly assigned duties and got to it.
First we had to clear the grass, which was littered with pegs, rubbish, pegs, bits and bobs, paddling pool and ....pegs! Not being the most skilled gardener, I volunteered to cut the grass and Louisa did the intricate trowelling of beds and weeding of patios slabs. After a final bit of tag team effort cutting and tidying of the lawn edges, we looked at our watches for first time - 55 mins. Wowsers, we must have been in the garden-zone because that time flew by!
Ms C came out to inspect and was hugely impressed at what we'd achieved in such a short space of time (not to mention pleased for re-stocking the peg bag!). She thanked us on our way out and we both left gleaming from the good deed and parted company, excited to enjoy the rest of the beautiful day in London!
