Saturday’s community mission this week was once again helping out the lovely Donatella from Friends of Brook Green. Eight GoodGymers united to repair the wooden fence lining a newly-established hedgerow along the Shepherds Bush Road side of the green. Upon arrival, the fence looked rather rickety, with many sections having completely detached from the anchoring posts. So the group grabbed their tools and quickly got to work.

Moving along each section in turn, we first detached the fence from the anchoring posts, then split into two groups: one taking on the task of hammering in extra anchoring posts to provide more support, and the other tidied up around the hedge plants by raking away leaves and digging up weeds. The positioning of the new anchor posts was an important decision – although many were on the fence, we decided to hedge our bets and put them in the middle of the existing posts.

Numerous bin bags later, and after a lot of hammering to set the posts (special thanks to Cookie who was an absolute pro at this 💪...definitely an GoodGym H&F poster boy! ), we re-attached the fence to the anchoring posts with zip ties and set it into the ground with the help of a mallet…what an improvement. Job done!

In true GoodGym H&F style we concluded the task with a tasty treat – a big thank you to Donatella for her delicious marble cake, 'taller' Beth for her fudgy chocolate brownies and to the Friends of Brook Green for thanking us for our help with Bears ice cream– yum! 🍦
