10 people ran 6k to help feed the homeless and organise clothes donations for Birmingham Mission Care Centre

A slightly smaller group was in attendance tonight, but we still had a GG newbie join us. It was great to have Liam running with us for the first time tonight. We had the usual pre-run briefing, Garry did the back-marking duties and we were good to go.

We set off on our way to Birmingham Mission. Noticeably as we left it wasn’t fully dark for the first time this year, only two weeks and the whole run will be in the light! We all arrived at our task destination having completed the 2k route. John warmly welcomed us as usual. The group was then split in two. Half the group helped in the kitchen, helping feed the homeless. The other half helped Maureen organise clothes donations. Everyone did a great job as usual and we were warmly thanked for our efforts, Abbie even got a ‘present’ of a new extra-large water bottle as it was going spare.

Eat, drink, hills, repeat

After we left the task we only had about 300 metres to run before we reached ‘our hill’. We used to do these hills by the post office, but the council have decided to dig the road up around there, so tonight’s hill is our new venue. The mission was to do six minutes of running hard up the hill and then jogging back down to recover. Rob and David led the way at the start. Liam showed great form on his debut run and John and Garry showed they were putting in a commendable effort with some grimacing facial expressions! Laura and Karin pushed each other along, Abi did well to stick at it, having sore legs from doing tons of squats the day before (I know that feeling only to well!) and Maria pushed hard all the way to the top of that leg burning hill! As usual the whole group were fantastic, pushing each other a long! Nobody likes hills, but you must admit there is a certain amount of satisfaction after completing a tough hill workout!

Once done we all ran a slightly longer 2.5k ish route back to 1000 Trades, taking the group up to the 6k mark, Top stuff!

Next week we will be out doing good again, it would be great if you could join us sign up here.
