Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicola Marshall
Another week, another wonderful Goodgym evening spent with friends, exercising and helping our local community.
Tonight we were back on the Sherborne Estate delivering flyers for a street party to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee. We met in our usual place outside the Sherborne Community bungalow. It was great to see Claire, Karen, Nigel and Maurice all out in force and raring to go.
We started our evening with a short warmup outside the bungalow and then we set off on our run. Tonight we completed the circular route that we never finished last week due to the rain! It was just over 2 miles in total and was the usual lovely chatty run that we’ve all become accustomed to at Goodgym (nothing too fast or serious but enough to raise the heart rate none the less!).
Back at the bungalow, we shared the leaflets between us. There definitely felt like more than we’d ever delivered before, so we knew we had our work cut out tonight. We set off to start the task at hand. I don't know about everyon else, but I felt a bit like the pied piper at one point, as we seemed to attract a crowd of local children who were very curious as to what we were doing. One lovely local resident, Maisie, a teenager who we’ve met several times while we’ve been working on the estate, joined in to give us a hand – and she was super helpful in directing us around the estate, making sure we hadn’t missed anywhere!
400 leaflets (we didn’t quite manage them all) and 3 miles later, we found ourselves (coincidentally) outside the chip shop!!! So, as we like to support local businesses, we decided to indulge in a few chips between us. It must be said, that Claire has willpower of steel as she didn’t have so much as single chip! However, the same couldn’t be said for the rest of us who heartily indulged! The chips are gorgeous to be fair! Hard to resist gorgeous chips, especially after 5 miles of exercise!
We made our way back to base and said our goodbyes. It was a thoroughly lovely evening with plenty of exercise, chatter and a little indulgence. Here's hoping our leafleting pays off and it's a successful and well attended jubilee celebration for the local community!
Well done everyone on another fantastic run completed! You were wonderful as always!
See you next time! Nicola xx
