A Lost Garden Uncovered
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Portsmouth.
- Sunday, 18th of July 2021
Today we went to continue tidying up Mr D’s garden which was looking much improved after previous visits. The back garden is very long, so Vicki took the right hand side for weeding, Mel on the left and John took on the jungle of a lawn, first with Mr D’s manual lawnmower, but realising that wasn’t going to be man enough, switched to the petrol strimmer which made the job a lot quicker. He managed to uncover a decent lawn and a pathway which clearly hadn’t been seen for a very long time. Mel discovered Raspberry canes and strawberry plants underneath all the weeds and lots and lots of snails, some of which were moved to a new home and safely out of harms way. Vicki made great progress clearing weeds and highlighting the beautiful plants along her border. We needed plenty of sun screen and Mel a hat today in the heat, even with some shady parts and stopped frequently to take on water. Still plenty to do as only half way down, but as always, the time went very quickly and after filling another 4 bags, these were stored safely ready for collection. We went on our way, hot, dusty, but very happy with what we’d done.
