SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
There was a definite chill in the air last night as we met for our group session, but nothing warms us up quite as quickly as a run to a local community organisation to lend a hand!
As an extra bonus we welcomed Alex to her very first GoodGym (give her a cheer!) and we kicked off with a warm up and a challenge - who could get closest to naming the correct number of people who ran the London marathon this year? There were lots of close guesses but it was Alice who got it right on the nose with the correct answer of a whopping 42 000!
As the darkness fell we ran down to Battersea Park to find the Thrive garden, which is a therapy space which uses gardening and therapeutic horticulture to change the lives of disabled people.
Our list of jobs for the evening included compost sieving, litter picking and raking leaves, so after Lorna cleverly cracked the security system we got stuck in.
After half an hour of work the place was looking rubbish-free, clear of leaves and the sieving team had collected three trugs' worth of super rich compost. Great job everybody!
We then found a space (far enough away from the squads showing us up on the track) for our fitness session. The idea, which was extremely badly explained by me, was to guess the place, person or object whilst avoiding the sprint penalties. Lorna won with David Beckham, Catherine's choice of New York was cracked after several rounds of questions, but it was Alex's choice of banana that was guessed immediately! We could definitely peel the burn with the final squat challenge, and after working those glutes it was time to split.
Thanks a bunch for all the hard work!
Next week we're off to Paradise cooperative garden to do a spot of painting, so if you have a headtorch do bring it along. Until then, have a happy week GoodGym!
