Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Katherine (she/her)
3 Goodgymers braved the rain to complete a soggy litter pick along the Grand Union Canal in support of the Canal and River Trust.
Meeting at our usual spot at the Fat Pug, we had a mile run to Tachbrook Road bridge 41 where we met Tim from the Canal and River Trust to collect our litter pickers, bag hoops and bags. From there we wandered along the canal tow path, picking litter as we went. At the same time we were trying to avoid getting a shoe full of water from the big puddles that took up most of the tow path after the heavy rain today!
Some finds today included plenty of empty beer cans, a couple of rum bottles, crisp packets, face masks, rubber gloves, a tennis ball and a completely unopened Gold bar (the chocolate kind unfortunately). We also saw two swans and two ducks enjoying the soggy weather on the canal.
Having covered the whole stretch of canal up to the Emscote Road bridge collecting 3 full bags of rubbish, we completed our circular route with a jog back up Rugby road to our starting place at the Fat Pug.
We're the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways, because we believe that life is better by water. Our research shows that spending time by water, whether it be your lunchbreak, daily commute or just a weekend stroll, really can make us feel happier and healthier.
