Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Linda Sharman
Mrs J has difficulty walking which means picking up after her dog in her pebbled back yard difficult. The job was to rid the area of large weeds and pick up the pebbles making the area more even underfoot.
First job was clearing weeds trying to get as much of the tap roots out as possible. Anyone who has tried pulling weeds which have pushed their way through weed-sheet will know this is not easy but 45 minutes later with a full bag of weeds it was time to start clearing the stones.
There were several tools to choose from. The spade didn’t shift much as the mud is uneven and hard with stones trodden in, the rake’s teeth were too wide so let the stones through and scattered them about and the trowel really didn’t pick up much.
In the end the best way to pick them up seemed to be scooping them up with gloved hands into a handy bucket for decanting into gravel bags. Although this doesn’t sound very efficient it is a relatively small area and in another 45 mins half the area was pretty much cleared.
Mrs J was impressed with how much got done, and is looking forward to it being finished, she is now thinking of paving it over which I advised her is outside GG’s skill set. The best we can do is get it as even as possible for her so another session will be needed as illustrated in before and after photos.
