Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
7 runners ran 3-5k to help build and fill some planters to cheer up a estate roof garden.
On a wet and windy Thursday evening 7 Runners met at Camden Town Hall to run and help out a local community project. It was a special run for Council employees to help a project supported by the Sustainability Team.
Gray's Inn Tenant Association Roof Terrace
Led by Volunteer Penny, the Tenants Association are attempting to spruce up the underused roof terrace. They are building planters from old wooden pallets- allowing the residents to grow food and cheer up the area with some exciting foliage.
1.5km run there
After a short warm up jog and a handful of flexibility exercises we meandered our way down to Roseberry Avenue. Penny met us at the gates and showed us around- illustrating her grand ideas for the terrace and showing us into the basement where the planters were being made. We broke into 2 teams- half of us heading upstairs to fill the planters, and the other half staying downstairs to saw the planters into manageable sizes.
London Skyline
The basement team got to work- beefing up their biceps and triceps with some rigorous saw action. In a short 40min stint they created 9 bases for the planters- nice one team! The roof team's job seemed a little more sedate- but to help with drainage we were also tasked with smashing up some small bricks to scatter over the bottom of the planters. Debbie went for it it- hitting the bricks soooo hard so managed to break a hammer! Its was great fun and we managed to create more bases in 40mins than they would ordinarily create in a whole week.
2 different runs home
On the way home we broke into 2 different groups- 1 heading straight home, and another taking a 2k 'long cut' back to the Townhall. Despite a bit of drizzle it was great. Lovely run all round!
