Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Post bank holiday and tipping it down with rain, a small but perfectly formed group turned out to run last night. With two tasks we had to work our little socks off.
Alex, Beth and Rebecca headed up to Loughborough Farm to finish off the weeding and clearing that we started two weeks ago. The small group meant lots of chatting about everything from behaving like teenagers when around our parents, Bake Off and what marathons we'd all done. After 45 minutes of weeding and 15 minutes of circuits we headed back with bag fulls of greens kindly given to us by the ladies at the farm.
Rebecca, Alex, Louisa and Tom ran through both Herne and Tulse Hills to the Portico Gallery in West Norwood, spurred on by the promise of being outfitted in some fetching overalls. Once we arrived we were given buckets of soapy water and set the task of scrubbing the walls and skirting boards in the entrance hallway, so John (the owner) would be able to give it a fresh lick of paint. We were also introduced to the gallery cat Methuselah, which is clearly important and should be a requirement of all future tasks to come. While we were there, Rebecca led the team in some squats, while John told us a bit about the various community events that occur in the gallery, including plays, art exhibitions, yoga and even a montly Ceildih! Charlie Chaplin has also performed there.... hard not to be excited about that.
After we had scrubbed to John's satisfaction, we ran back (downhill) to Brixton, narrowly avoiding the gates that the Brockwell park fun fair workers had helpfully left open over the path and arrived back in Brixton at what surely must have been a record pace!
