15 Hackney GoodGymers ran 5k to West Hackney Recreation Ground to cut back the low over growth on the Parks Lime trees.
Thank you to everyone for coming out on a random weather day!! Looked like we might be swimming to the task for a while then we were almost over heating in our water proof gear on the run!!
Big shout out for Saturday’s Community Mission with the Tree Musketeers!! all the information and where to sign up is here.
A nice chatty run down to a new green space for us in Stoke Newington to meet Hackney Parks Ranger Bruce. We were lucky enough to get some new gloves to tackle Lime tree growth. This level of decadence is not the norm on GG runs so we great fully gloved up and set to work.
Working in pairs we lopped, cut and raked away the low growth on 20 of the Parks Lime trees which boarder the park.
Working on the patterned GG tree fade the trims were looking tight!! So tight some poor fairy lights got the literal cut as they didn’t meet our high aesthetic standards.
With the trees looking ready to impress we raked up the fallen foliage and created a mass pile to show our efforts.
Then the big split came and nearly 2 men down!! With the Stokey residents running straight home we almost managed to leave Dave and Vinney raking away around the back. Luckily Dave’s headtorch shone bright and we were reunited for the run back. With blame for the nearly mishap being handed out there was only one way to settle the beef, the Quad stretch Duel!! the battle was epic and horrifying life altering scares were unleashed!! In the end hopping around on one leg pushing each other quite gently on the street was the winner!!
Next week we are off to Hollybush community Gardens! Be great to have you along for a run/walk or ride!!
