Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes
After a successful task with SPARC last year, creating a therapy shed base for the charity, SPARC got in touch to request some more help with a new project on the horizon.
SPARC have been allocated an allotment plot on a local space and they have been tasked with creating an area that can be utilised for referrals for mental health.
Plot 30b needs a complete overhaul which will include minor landscaping, path construction, small patio area and the creation of growing beds.
It will contribute to the projects initiative of broadening the charity's reach to engage people who currently access primary care mental health services. it will also providing a meeting place for SPARC and other workers to bring clients to a safe green space.
We set off from Life Leisure's Grand Central base, ready to take a steady 3km uphill climb to meet James and Lynne (dedicated SPARC team members ) at a pub nearby to the allotment plot.
The plot was a spralling, hidden haven amongst a street of Georgian houses but due to the recent weather, had become overgrown with stubborn rooted brambles.
We got to work, digging, raking and chopping to make a dent in the overgrown plot.
After a good hour of solid work, half of the plot was transformed, ready for a round two session next week!
