Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Patrick Luong
Patrick helped an older isolated neighbour by doing a food shop through the rain and having two great conversations
I doubled up on deeds and conversations as the rain doubled down on another rainy day. Mr N had lived in his home for 13 years but had recently returned from hospital and was not able to get out to buy his own food. That's where GoodGym saved the day.
B*witched sang it: the rain goes on, on and on again. Just blame it on the weatherman 🎤🎵🌧️🌧️🌧️
"Fresh" from the earlier prescription drop off I ran to the delight of meeting Mr N by his door and sheltered from the elements. We had a great chat about GoodGym coaches, Tom Daley's knitting, the Olympics and North London Cares (again!). I almost forgot I had a task to do but when he said he'll get a chair if we'll keep talking I took my cue to go out again.
This was one of the better shopping missions as Mr N had set out a clear list, in priority order and could clarify what brands, sizes and substitutes were preferred. Just like a gameshow our list came in just under the £20 budget though we would have tipped over if I hadn't brought my own bags to give Mr N.
Very healthy and varied shopping basket collected (and a cheeky nata for later - from own money of course) and back through the rain to deliver.
We then spoke for another half hour about loads of things before I received a call from my next activity and took that as my nudge to run home.
Was a pleasure to meet Mr N and we both said our goodbyes and hoped our paths may cross again
