Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
For the last of GoodGym Camden's massive 5 community missions today, 7 GoodGymmers gathered to help pack up after the Somers Town festival.
As theoretically in charge, Elizabeth (with Beth) sought instructions from our contact, Jackie. After a puzzling few minutes of helping Jackie unload some boxes of watermelons from a cage, Elizabeth and Beth took the cage back to the eager pack of GoodGymmers to start work.
Our main task seemed to be to dismantle various tables and chairs dotted around the festival and to cart them back to where they're going to be stored. This was made slightly more difficult by the fact that several stall holders were obviously attached to their stall at a base emotional level, and did not seem keen to start packing up. With Sally and Vicki on team "gently persuade", however, we were soon able to collect a large number of the tables and chairs previously in use: Danny, Beth and Tilly manned the cage (loading and transport) for this, while Elizabeth, Fay, Sally, and Vicki dismantled things, leaving them in piles like benevolent elves.
As our job was nearing its end, the watermelon seller appeared to reclaim his cage (we may have accidentally assisted in liberating it from his custody earlier by helping remove the watermelons... Oops! 😅). With our method of transporting tables back with its rightful owner, we posed with some chairs in an entirely natural way for the group photo and made our goodbyes to the festival staff.
Overall, the fair was great fun; we're looking forward to helping out next year! 😄👍
