Report written by Laura P (she/her)
6 GoodGym Coventry members walked/ran/cycled (and got lost on the way!) to the Woodend Scout group allotments to help get the allotment ready for use when the Scouts are able to meet again.
The allotment has got quite overgrown during lockdown and so there are plenty of tasks to keep us busy, including raking and digging raised beds, weeding, and pulling up plants that had started to take over the potting shed. There was plenty of space to maintain social distancing whilst having a good catch up and chat as we raked, dug and wheelbarrowed (is that a word?).
Once the space has been cleared it can be used for outdoor Scout meetings, where young people can learn new skills, work together to grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy spending time outdoors.
We are a new scout group set up in Woodend, Coventry. In October 2019 we took on a very large allotment to give our young people to opportunity to grow their own food, learn about the environment and sustainability and to support our community with fresh fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately due to covid we have been unable to meet this spring and the Allotment has become very over grown.
