I turned up to a beautiful morning in Perry Hall park, and set up the course with Ian, a regular at this parkrun. We had a chat about running and volunteering, and how it is harder to help when injured because you don't really want to watch people running when you can't, before splitting up to do the final sections. On my return, I met Goodgym runner Chan, who was being filmed as part of his shortlisting for a community award. We had to do a few fake up group runs for the camera before the race itself. Then I went on to lead the parkrun for most of the way round (it's road relays weekend, so most of the fast runners were resting) before getting pipped at the line. But my job was not done yet, as Run Director Emma asked me if I could step in to help with barcode scanning, as they were having some issues. I promptly downloaded the app, as they were ditching the scanners for the day, and did another 10 minutes of volunteering, before setting off on the run home. The parkrun volunteer app is great fun, easy to use, and makes a huge difference.
