Our First Saturday Group Run
We were a smaller turnout than normal with it being a Saturday but 6 amazing GoodGymer's arrived ready and raring to go for our task. It was great to see you Angela, Dan, John, Karen & Lauren Thanks for giving up time on your Saturday to join us on our task and an extra huge kudos to those who had already run or volunteered at parkrun prior to arriving!!!
The Task As usual, our task started out with a bit of an energy boost in the form of a Cadbury's Choco Sandwich (great choice Dan! I think you now have John and me hooked!) and some jammy dodgems.
We did some simple warm up drills using the cones and rotated round them varying our pace between a walk, a jog and a run. Our heart rate was soon up and we headed out to our task which was at Jubilee House. We've worked here before with this amazing charity which do such great work in our community supporting families, the elderly and the homeless.
We took a slightly longer route there to increase our distance. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Michele along with wafting smells of meat and potato pie being prepared for the homeless. It smelt deeeelicious!! Armed with litter pickers and bags, we set to work clearing up the outside of the building and the nearby gardens which are very litter prone. The team did an awesome job collecting at least 6 large bags of rubbish, removing a large amount of cans and bottles. Michele and her team were delighted with the result and something that took us under an hour to do has made a huge difference to them as an organisation.
Once it was mission accomplished, we headed into Jubilee Gardens where we did our fitness session. John started us off with an interesting version of a squat whilst counting us in Welsh! We did a series of different exercises concluding with some boxing. Everyone embraced the exercises with John seeming to particularly enjoy the boxing (with me fearing for my life!! ;-)))) . Is anyone else a bit achy this morning or is it just me?
Thank You
A heartfelt thanks for coming to join us on this Saturday task today. I love my role within GoodGym and that's because of all the wonderful people that I get to meet and work with. You truly are an awesome bunch of people and its' a privilege to get to know you all.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and keeeeeeeeep running!
