On a grand evening, 17 fierce runners dragged GoodGym Liverpool's total good deeds to over a grand, with a task at the Bombed Out Church.

It was a sticky evening, so the group was grateful for a gentle run down the hill to the Bombed Out Church. They didn't quite anticipate how physical the task would be once they got there though! Warmly greeted by Ambrose, our first task was to lift a 200-year old iron gate that had recently broken from its hinge. With such a small staff team at St Luke's, Ambrose was amazed by how quickly our people power was able to sort out this nagging problem.

So to the next task. The grounds of the church (left as a ruin after being hit by a bomb in the Blitz of 1941) is home to a wonderful peace sculpture depicting the Christmas Day truce of 1914. From the street, the sculpture is being obscured by an overgrown ivy hedge. The plan is to transform this area into a memorial garden. So our task was to remove the hedge. Simple. Apart from, no loppers or secateurs were available; the team relied on brute strength.

The team dragged and whacked, dug up roots and dodged dodgy debris, while passers by looked on with bemused expressions. Thirty minutes later and it was a great job done.

Following this week's Group Run, Team Liverpool has accumulated 1,009 good deeds! You. Are. Amaaaaaazing.

We waved goodbye to the Bombed Out Church and meandered back up the hill to the Met Cathedral. Given how hard the team had worked at the task, I didn't set them the usual up and down the steps, but sent them on a simple relay up the steps and around the huge building. They came back panting but happy.

A special shout out goes to Lorna (great to have you back) and to John who looked very snazzy in his 50-deeds black t-shirt (well earned fella).
