27 fantastic GoodGym-ers ran between 5 and 7km to complete a mission, help at Kentish Town City Farm and help at Castlehaven!!!

With PB on holiday it fell to me to lead the group this evening - we had a lovely bunch of runners including first timers Rosa and Dani - welcome to Camden!

Tonight we had two tasks and a mission! The lovely Sophie and Ben headed up to Mrs B's place to tackle her garden - we'll hopefully be having more missions during the group run slot so get yourselves DBS-checked and you can get involved - it's a great experience (check out their report here)! The rest of us headed to old favourites Kentish Town City Farm and Castlehaven.

Twist

We had our usual intro, head count and with the news taken care of...

  • Simon and Imogen (amongst others) raced some boats at the weekend - congrats to Simon who beat all three of them!
  • Danica went to another fantastic White Star Running event at Giants Head and picked up a rather interesting tshirt!
  • The GoodGym monthly social will be on the 6th July (next Thurs) somewhere in Peckham as the social goes on tour again and is hosted by the lovely folk in GG Southwark!

...we headed outside for a quick dynamic warm up, I decided to throw in a 'twist' on the walking lunge this week - most people seemed to enjoy it but perhaps a better demonstration will be needed next time!

With the draw of the animals at the farm taking the majority of the group here's what they got up to... well actually it's more of a report on the animals they met from Frances:

Eighteen of us went to Kentish Town City Farm. We had two tasks to do – one involved moving some bags around, and another involved shifting some wood around. But to be honest the details of the tasks are less interesting than all the lovely animals we got to meet! Quite a few of us got to hold Ruby the goat, who is six weeks old, and just on the verge of being too heavy to hold. She coped very well with all the attention she was getting. There was also a beautiful puppy called Jack, who ran all around the farm trying to avoid my attempts to take a photo. We also had a cow and a very pregnant pig. All in all, an excellent evening of animal petting (and a decent amount of hard work too)

Animal Farm

With a little coaxing I took seven runners along to the wonderful Castlehaven. We were on litter and tree debris picking duties but found the park to be in pretty good condition although it didn't stop us filling a few bags full of litter with the highlight being Rupert finding a pair of shoes! With that done we spent some time working on the rather large pile of green waste and twigs that needed to be broken down and bagged up. With a good dent made there we packed up our kit and headed for a lovely canal run all meeting at the steps at Granary Square before a gentle jog back to base.

We had a final stretch down and then a few of us headed to the local public house for a deserved beverage.

Always a pleasure to lead you - thanks everyone and please sign up to next week's task here

p.s. With a lot of our news based on runs and races that we do within the GoodGym community we wanted to make sure that those on facebook were aware of the 'Unofficial' facebook group - lots of news and opportunities to connect with other GoodGym-ers there. Please feel free to join here
