Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Greenwich runner
Gardening at Manor Park is becoming a regular task at Lewisham, with a few (or a lot) of us showing up monthly to help out the resident Gardening Club. This particular Saturday, myself and newcomer Jacob were there to show the GoodGym colours!
By the time I found where the group had assembled (after some good minutes wandering around the garden until finally asking the cafe owner!), Jacob was already fully immersed in chopping away the overgrown hedges! I joined the task and the spoils of our work soon started to pile up on the ground.
With the hedges regaining their shape, it was time to move into the middle section of the patch of green we were working on. Here, we were tasked with digging the soil to remove weeds and old dead plants, and leave it prepared to receive some manure. Shovels in hand, we dug into the job… which proved a little trickier than expected as there were some pipes and concrete bits underneath which kept finding the way of the shovels! Not deterred by this, we worked around the hard bits until all the soil had had a good old turn around. All that was left to do was to spread the manure and we called it a day!
