The Challenge

In January 2022 GoodGym Bristol took on the January Bingo Challenge and smashed it!

The challenge took the form of twenty-five tasks, that varied in difficulty and theme, to hopefully give everyone the opportunity to test themselves, try something new and start the new year the right way.

We also got some media coverage with BBC Bristol interviewing Mel (GG Bristol Area Administrator) about the challenge.

Results

All ten participants of the challenge did amazing, with people galloping around Queen square, plogging through Filton, fancy dress running along the river or with Strava art of a funky Chicken, so everyone is a winner as hopefully everyone pushed themselves and achieved some self-improvement and stuck to at least one new year resolution.

The person who achieved the most tasks was Matt, here are his thoughts:

As the reigning double GoodGym Olympics 1Km champion I was a little disappointed not to manage the 1Km time trial challenge, but I was pleased with my performance overall.

The challenge did push me further in January; I had to complete a four-hour run, and decided to take this on as a trail marathon run around Castle Combe even though I knew this would take me longer than the four hours, just to tick the bingo box.

Thanks for the prizes I will enjoy the new shoes and race entry!

Other prize winners may be announced in the next few weeks

Also a quick interview with one of the taskforce organisers, who is also called Matt.

Everyone did fantastic, it's great to see 70% of them did a new route, almost everyone ran with someone else, and got out in the dark, most found time for an interval session. The galloping and fancy dress runs always bring such delight to an audience, so thank you for brightening up a dreary January.

It's important to remember that some people find running a marathon hard; others find the exhibitionism of running in fancy dress hard; or just navigating a new route can be really hard. So whatever challenge you took on, you are all winners!

Well said, Matt.

See you all in 2023 for the next January Bingo Challenge.
