Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Amy L GoodGym (she/her)
Firstly a big welcome to Alice and congratulations on her first good deed with GoodGym today!
It was great to have her join me at the Baby Bank. This amazing charity helps families in need with essentials ranging from cots to toiletries and everything in between. Sadly their services are very much in demand so it is always very busy.
Alice and I got stuck in with a few tasks today. First on the list was helping unload thirty Christmas gift bags from the car of one very generous donor - our first festive task of the year! Inspiringly, this donor had decided that rather than spend lots of money on gifts for family and friends, who really want for nothing, she would donate to the Baby Bank's pyjama appeal. The bags contained books, pyjamas and chocolate. We sorted them by age and made up a few extra bags with duplicate gifts.
Next on the list was sorting nappies and formula from an Amazon wishlist delivery. This was a quick and satisfying task, which helped create some floor space in the charity's busy storage space.
Finally, we headed to the uniform room, where we made a small dent in the uniform donations mountain. Quite a few items were too worn to give to new owners, so were relegated to the 'room of doom', but we also managed to file away lots of pairs of trousers and shorts by colour and age ready for when they are needed.
There are plenty of opportunities to help at the Baby Bank on Tuesday and Friday mornings, and an endless list of things we can do to help, click here to get involved.
The Baby Bank collects donations of good quality clothes, equipment, and furniture to help families in extreme need. They provide essentials ranging from everyday items like nappies, and wipes to larger items like cots. They support families beyond the baby stage, for example with school uniform. They aim to give all children the best possible start in life.
