Report written by Rachel Carthy
Naomi and myself went litter picking in Derby city centre and it was great to see the place busier than usual due to a Rams fixture with Hull.
We had a couple of people thank us for helping to tidy up the streets and found a few face masks, lots of fast food containers and empty bottles and cans. This all made us pretty hungry so we discussed what sort of things we like having for tea and the 'Too good to go' food waste scheme that some of the volunteers have been picking up recently.
We took it steady on a walk-jog session and completed 4.5km in 90 minutes and collected 2 bags of litter.
Up for discussion were how various industries were returning to work following working from home guidelines, what we get out running and what for us personally is the joy of running and potential future tasks for volunteers.
Thanks to Naomi for the photo and for making it out on what was a pleasant much more mild evening than it has been! No cosy gloves were needed on this litter picking session.
Keep an eye out for future litter picking sessions and come along for all or part of one.
