Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Derby runner
In a moment of madness I signed up for this community mission – for the exercise portion I chose to keep moving with an outward cycling journey on a grey day, then later travelled back to our house through the sun and the rain.
Dressed in baggy trousers and a two tone GoodGym T-shirt, I arrived on time at Derby Cathedral. There was a moment of embarrassment when I found out I was in the wrong place – the venue was one step beyond: the Cathedral Café over the road.
Along with a dozen other volunteers, we folded the wings of a dove from paper shapes that had been decorated by members of the community as part of their work, rest and play, ready to be displayed as part of the Peace Doves installation.
Was it worth it? Absolutely!
PS Rachel has listed a community mission for volunteers to welcome visitors to the house of fun to view the doves. You can sign up here.
The Cathedral Church of All Saints Derby is a jewel of a building, glittering with life and colour especially when the sun shines through the clear glass windows. There are many fascinating monuments around the walls which tell an unfolding history of a thousand years. As a place of sanctuary and worship, you are invited to visit, and appreciate the calm and space for reflection and prayer. All Saints’ Church was hallowed as a Cathedral in 1927 with the creation of the new Diocese of Derby. Over this time, Derby Cathedral has sought to serve the bishops and parishes of the Diocese, together with all who live and work in the city and county. Everyone is welcomed here.

Tracey this report is brilliant! Complete Madness ... I'd even go so far as calling it Divine Madness!
