On a rainy and horrible night GoodGym Redbridge laughed in the face of bad weather and gave back to Wanstead House Community Association which provides our home.

Whether it was the miserable weather or the beginning of the school holidays, it’s not certain, but only three people arrived ready to go good last night. Unperturbed the hardcore trio of Peter, Martin and James set to work on the mammoth job of painting and protection the fencing that surrounds Wanstead House Community Association.

In a scene reminiscent of The Karate Kid, “Paint the fence. Up…down. Up! Down!” the task was handled with enthusiasm and speed. Within 40 minutes six panels and a significant stretch of the perimeter had been transformed from tired grey to beech brown. It’s amazing what can be done with a few motivated people. Anna, from Wanstead House commented on what a difference we had made and how much better it looked. Black belts in the making, no doubt.

“Paint the fence. Up…down. Up! Down!”

With the task complete, the team headed out to explore Wanstead Park, a beautiful green land area that forms part of Epping Forest. As the group was small the pace was more up-tempo and the trio navigated themselves around the trails that wound along the river Roding and the small lakes. 50 minutes later and 8km covered the workforce returned for some light stretching and a social reward over at The George pub.

Over the coming weeks there will be plenty more fun tasks and we will be exploring more of the gorgeous area that surrounds our home at Wanstead House. This is a mixed ability run group and we cater for everyone from racing snakes to first timers. Come down, do good and get fit. You’ll be amazed how good you feel afterwards.

If you can’t wait until next Monday, why not join us for the monthly GoodGym social at the Star of Kings, Kings Cross. We’ll laugh at the Pun of the Month and celebrate those heroes that have run far and done good. Maybe one month this could be you?

If you fancy something more competitive, the GG Park Run tour travels to Finsbury Park this Saturday and there is also the Regents Park 10km on Sunday.

Finally, we really need your help to make GG Redbridge a success. Why not come down and do a good deed and run, or if you can’t make it tell your family and friends. There’s a tonne of good to do in the Borough but we can’t do it alone. WE NEED YOU!
