Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Michael Kidd
On a wet Thursday evening, four runners met in Borough to rearrange Mr B's furniture. Frances, Mridula, James and I were met by Mrs B, who first set us to task on clearing over 15 rubbish bags and a cluster of walking sticks and frames, from all three storeys of the house to the garden.
This was swiftly followed by the main act: swapping two large beds between the top and middle floors of the house. The task looked daunting and proved to be even more so! Advance planning was required to maintain construction space in each zone of operation. Also, the stairways were both narrow and low, which made manoeuvring the mattresses, bed frames and base units much like a full-scale game of Tetris or Jenga.
Special mentions go to James for his project management skills and coordination, Frances for her multi-tasking and improvisation mid-lifting, and Mridula for impressive dead-lifting!
We were all puffing and sweating when the transfer was complete but the work wasn't over. Two chests-of-drawers needed swapping in a similar manner, which I left the other three heroes to manage as my time was up. They finished with ease, although James came slightly too close for comfort to trapping his extremities in a drawer.
Mr and Mrs B were chuffed and GoodGym proved its worth once again.
