Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by James Poole
On a mild spring night, 10 of Goodgym's finest met to build bee and bug houses and ran 3km in the process.
As part of the WWF's Earth Hour, where as much as possible the lights are switched off for an hour on Saturday evening, the team at GG Redbridge met to do something environmental and helpful in the local community. One of our favourite tasks is helping Wanstead Community Gardeners, so the decision was made to build bug and bee homes that can be placed in some of the gardens we have helped with over the last few years.
With Run Leader Peter acquiring some wooden pallets and James, Kris and Dharmesh bringing tools and other useful materials to build the boxes, the task was set.
If a new task wasn't exciting enough we were also joined by first time Goodgymers, Sharon and Linda who quickly got stuck in sawing, nailing and screwing planks together to make the boxes. Nice work ladies.
With the clock counting down and a run still required, the team downed tools after around 60 minutes - plenty enough time to build one and half bee homes and two bug houses which we will place in the local gardens in the coming weeks. Check out the photos to see what amazing things were built!
The good news is that we have loads of materials left, so we are going to build more homes in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled on the task list to make sure you don't miss out.
Well done team, one of the most fun tasks yet and the finished articles were amazing!
Run by Marian this group helps take unloved patches of land in Wanstead and Snaresbrook and turn them into beautiful patches of flowers and plants.
