Energy Garden has started to organise (edible) community gardens on station platforms all over London, with South Woodford tube station being one of the next in line. Any garden start with a design & plan of what to do, hence tonights meeting to talk about what plans to put to TfL for their approval. Luckily the team from Energy Garden has some experience on the subject, so the general picture emerged soon enough. Creative ideas like a little platform library popped up while discussing which kind of plants / scrubs / climbers would be nice. The idea of an edible garden spoke to everyone, so herbs & veg etc will be the main pick. Some local schools will also be involved with making a bug hotel & wormery.

Perhaps the design stage is not yet the point for a Goodgym crew to get involved, but when things need building, soil needs shifting etc, there is bound to be an opportunity for the crew to get involved. And it turns out there is already a Goodgym connection! Besides GG Richmond helping out with the Kew garden project, our friends at the Forest Recycling Project are making the planters - recycled scaffolding boards fit in perfectly with Energy Gardens ethos! EG is also working on some platform gardens in Walthamstow, so perhaps GG Waltham Forest might be interested as well?

All in all, a productive evening with definitely more to come... watch this space!

P.S... apparently there will be a piece in the local newspaper!
