Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
Rachel and Area Activator Simon met up at the Elizabeth House Food Hub last night for Goodgym Islington's final group run before the Xmas break. Together, they ran through brightly lit festive neighbourhoods near Holloway Road (covering about 2 miles on route) before approaching Thornhill Square Gardens.
Upon arrival, we caught up with Alistair, John and Alison, who had already met up with Anna, a resident gardening expert and friend of Thornhill Square.
Earlier this week, a local garden charity donated hundreds of bulbs to Thornhill Square for planting, so our visit was perfectly timed! Our crew spread themselves around the flower beds and soft composted areas (while donning head lights and work lamps), and dug trenches to distribute the tiny new plants. All being well, they will be ready to grow strong in Spring.
After returning all of the tools back to the shed, we set off on our separate ways. Rachel and Simon ran back to Elizabeth House Food Hub again via Emirates Stadium, spotting friendly cats and familiar neighbourhood faces on the way.
Thank you for a smashing 2021 of group running everyone! We will return with our first run on Monday 3rd January 2022 (which is a Bank Holiday, but we are still on!).
We still have plenty of community missions on the cards though!
CREOS (Crouch End Open Space) Volunteer Morning (Ho Ho Hoggin!)
We will be returning to CREOS this Sunday 19th December to continue our excellent work of building forest paths between Highgate Woods and Crouch End. This really is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday, and is frequently followed with hot drinks and snacks with the Friends of CREOS!

Elizabeth House Food Hub Xmas Delivery Evening
One of our most popular tasks from last Xmas makes a return, just a few days before the day itself. Our new starting location for our group runs have been operating a food bank service throughout lockdown and the pandemic years.
During Xmas, they look upon additional assistance to help with dropping off bags of shopping, gifts and essential supplies to last the festive period to local families.
Our final community mission before Xmas- it would be wonderful to have you on board!
Starting from 5.30pm on Wednesday 22nd December:

'A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road. Plenty of space (it is the largest square in Islington) to picnic, rest, read, admire the flowers shrubs and trees, and walk a dog. Volunteers, with the council are working to encourage healthy activities, including walking and yoga, and also to improve the diversity of wildlife in the park.'
