Report written by Bournemouth runner
The rain cleared and we ended up with a lovely mild and fresh smelling evening for our group run to a new school. Bishop Aldhelm's Primary School.
Marianne was fresh off smashing her goal she set for herself when she first joined us....
22km
in one go and she managed to do it last Sunday, opting to go solo rather than join a race...and three weeks before her deadline. Awesome effort and first time she's ever run that distance. Then tonight she topped it off by completing her
15th Good Deed
We start to learn a lot about ourselves when we are left with our own thoughts for considerable amount of time!
Who's next to set a goal and smash it? Phil at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival? Hope so!
We also have some brave runners racing this weekend at the Run Jurassic Coast events. Daryl is doing the Half Marathon, Caprice and John are enduring the full Marathon and Sarah the 10k.....I've raced along there before and parts are so steep you are climbing....and it's very very windy.....please send them your support and wish them all the best along with good weather!!
So our run this evening was the opposite of what they will go through this weekend and what Marianne went through. Well, saying that it wasn't easy as the whole way there was a gradual incline, with lots of distractions through the gardens and then even some gravel path near some lovely heathland, all before it got to dark to enjoy it.
We had the lovely Hannah back marking for us and Caprice using her photography skills to show how hard everyone was working. We were also very grateful for Daryl and his car, who provided us with a bag storage service, as the Cafe we were meeting at closed at 7....
We met Paul at the gate to the school, and he was kind enough to come back out this evening to meet us and look after us with lots of tools and even strong lights to guide us.....although I did get a chance to put our new butterfly lights to good use...see if you can spot them in the photos.
We had two flower beds to tidy up and not just any flower beds, but those in their memorial garden, which happens to be right by the entrance to the school where everyone walk past. So the pressure was on to do a good job...that combined with the fact that we had to impress on our first encounter with Paul and the school, well many other groups may have succumbed to the pressure....but our gang stepped up and bushed it real good!
So good in fact that the flower beds ended up looking like a beautiful Japanese landscaped version! We pruned the rosemary bush to make sure it grew back bushier and played with lots of innuendos!
After impressing Paul with our teamwork and speed we put our torches on and headed back the way we came, joking about scary movies and what usually happens in the dark to those at the back...or those that go downstairs...or go for a wee in the bushes.....so we stuck together and laughed nervously!
A great evening with lots of lovely people as always. Love you guys!
See you next week as we go back to the future in a way...but not really....
