News
Well done to our two of our Run Leaders Darren and Sut Yee (and me!) for completing the Reading Half Marathon yesterday. It was a well organised race with one or two hills to test those legs and a brilliant stadium finish. Huge thank you to Chrissy, Keira, Pete, Denise and Anita who came down to cheer us on.
Delighted to announce that Goodgym Slough have been awarded a grant of £800 to help us with Community Clean Ups by a scheme called Neighbourly (sponsored by TK Maxx and Homebase). We can now purchase items to help us do clean ups and lights to keep us safe and visible during the winter months
Welcome brief and warm up done we headed out for our short 2km run to The Riverside Centre to meet Jamie, our task owner. Thank you to Sara, Pam and Ruth for back marking today.
With the light still fading at this time of night, Jamie tasked us to clear up the never ending litter in the Centre’s car park area. Once we hit the lighter months, Jamie has promised us a little trip on the canoe’s so we can get to the Rivers edge and give it a good tidy up…Looking forward to being the RowBoatCops on that group run
The Jubilee River Riverside Centre offers a host of water based activities ranging from rowing, kayaking to paddle-boarding for small groups, individuals or touring trips. They also do a lot of work with community groups and schools. Have a look at their website for more information. https://jubileeriversidecentre.wordpress.com/
An Oar-Deal
Actually it’s never an oar-deal doing tasks for Jamie. We love coming down to the centre to help clear up the surrounding area. Unfortunately the area around the River does seem to be a bit of a dumping ground for all sorts of rubbish and we’ve now become accustomed to the canoe’dings that go on in the car park…even the ‘don’t be a tosser sign’ is lost on some people
P(oops) I did it Again
There must have been a BOGOF offer in Slough as a vast amount of Pampers boxes had been kindly disposed off in the car park. All soaked through…these boxes most definitely needed to be changed. And only the ‘parents’ in the group could deal with this task…well done Meera and Ricky..Though Meera also found another key item parents generally use a lot…a bottle of brandy or two
Pain in the Butt
James got totally stuck into the task tonight. His Goodgym dedication is to be admired. He didn’t think twice of getting into the bushes and pulling out all of the debris and litter buried there. Even a few thorns in the gluteus maximus didn’t deter him! A man on a bush clearing mission tonight
Refuse to Give Up
The 11 strong team refused to give up till the last piece of rubbish was gone! We managed to fill a wheelie wheelie big bin full of rubbish in just 30 minutes.
Litter Bit Tired
As we did the task in a good time we had extra time to make our way back. So I kindly suggested a longer route back to base…Surely I wasn’t thinking clearly…tired legs, longer route and hills! Next time I’ll keep my bright ideas to myself
Earth Week
Next week is Earth week and we have two good deeds planned. Have a look at the link below and sign up to whichever one you can attend. https://www.goodgym.org/areas/slough/happenings/group-runs
