A handful of Newham runners clocked up an impressive tally of road miles yesterday (9.3k to be exact) as we battled through the unforgiving rain and mini roadside tsunamis to find our Carvanserai; forget travellers resting, this was the perfect place for us to dry off a little as we got our hands dirty.

We arrived slightly later than planned so knew we would have to work 'full speed ahead' (putting safety first of course). Newly appointed Che gave us a rundown of the site and after briefly admiring the hand built upcycled structure we were in, known as Flitched we got to work shifting steel pans and large pieces of timber. The kind team there even went to the trouble of installing new lighting for us to work under.

The several tonnes of sand we were expecting to shift where yet to be delivered so instead Alex and Daniel gave the existing sand on site a bit of TLC in the form of a gentle rake (its all in the details) whilst David got a bit rougher on the other side with a pickaxe.

After downing tools we were ready to once again battle the roads and grace the Greenway as we made it back to the Aquatics Centre for a stretch under the watchful eye of the Orbit.

Another mammoth effort from the team. Thank you all

Kirsty

I look like I'm about to die/cry in the fifth photo! It wasn't that bad, honestly - just a bit of rain and a 5k run!
