The ground was still frozen, as were most of the water butts, so once again this was more of a site maintenance visit at the Walled Garden.

But there are always things to do and Wayne came with a plan ... move a big pile of cardboard across site!

The cardboard is at the heart of the no-dig strategy for the garden and forms the bottom layer for all the beds. But there’s still a whole heap of the stuff left and it was currently sitting where a pile of wood chips will soon want to be delivered. So our main job today was to shift it, layer by (frozen together) layer over to one of the concreted foundations which has yet to find its future building. And generally tidy and square up the pile in the process.

After that we had time for a sit down and a long natter about the type of community work Grow For Life does at the site, before finishing up with a general tidy up and managing to find the one liquid water butt from which we could water the compost piles.

Another successful and lovely morning out at the garden!
