Four runners ran 8km in the sunshine to Broomfield Hospital
After initial panic about our weekly group run clashing with the football, we rallied together four members to run up to Broomfield and continue work on the sunken garden.
Cara, Fay and myself met at ARU, congratulated Cara on her very hot 10km race at Marsh Farm on Sunday and set off. We had a further catch up on the way and took our now usual shortcut through the church yard to the hospital.
We navigated our way around the grounds to the sunken garden, where we met Catherine and Richard from the hospital team busy at work. After a hiatus from working on the sunken garden, we were amazed to see the progress since the last time we had been. The crescents which we started digging back in November last year are now fully complete and lined with concrete and bricks. We helped Richard with grading the tops of the garden, ready for planting soon.
We made a decent start on grading the soil, and discussed what else will be done in the garden. After saying goodbye to Richard and pausing for a photo we began on our journey back. Fay and Catherine tried to enlighten me and Cara on Five Star, and gave us a lovely rendition, but we were both at a loss as to who they were!
Catherine left us part way to jog home, and the rest of us returned to ARU for stretches. We agreed that we had a nice relaxing run as just the four of us, but look forward to the return of a few others next week!
Richard at Broomfield told us that there is still lots of work to be done in the sunken garden, and any further help would be much appreciated over the coming weeks. We will be hopefully visiting for another Wednesday run soon, and we may look at going for a longer task at the weekend too. Further details will be provided soon.
This week marks a very special event for GoodGym Chelmsford - it's two years since we started! To celebrate, we are going to the Summer Beer Festival in Admirals Park tomorrow from just before 5pm. Details can be found here or on our Facebook page
Next week we are heading to Interact, with Richard leading. Sign up here, and see you there!
