Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Snaps to Claire for the pun. Cracked the running part. Popped into Ashford Place for an awesome task.
On the GG taster event of the season Coach Ellie was delighted to welcome double figures to Willesden SC for another fab Brent GG in October.
As the group assembled, familiar faces welcomed a trio of newbies into our midst as well - Polly, Ngan and Bobbie. Horrahhhhh!!!
After housekeeping and messages there were applause all round for Chris completing a cross country at the weekend and Sadhana who's legs were still heavy from Sundays half marathon!!! Yes you heard right, what a hero! Ellie on the other hand had driven all the way to Wimbledon to take part in the half and drove all the way back home with no medal after her brother and team mate had left his running trainers at home!!! Even more excuse to run like a trooper tonight to make it up!!
After the briefing the task was explained - Ashford Place, the awesome community centre in the heart of Cricklewood that supports the people of Brent, working their way of of homelessness. Harvest festival had brought a bounty of goodies that need to be sorted and shifted from the basement to the top floor!! It was a mission that we could not pass up or Scoff at for that matter!!
The 2.5k run there was a breeze. We delighted in the challenge of the "Weave and Bob" Through the busy streets of Willesden, up to Cricklewood, hopping past passers by, scooting past on their way home from work. Before long we had arrived at our destination. With a quick stretch and photo-call (obviously) before entering inside.
Greeted by Alan the worker for the night, he seemed terrified to think he had to find us all a bed!! Luckily, our main contact Danny jumped in and explained who we were. Thinking it would be a scream to keep us a surprise Danny announced us with Glee, followed by Alan sighing a sigh of big relief at the realisation we were not his usual customers!!
After the greeting, we followed Danny down to the task. In the basement a store was stacked with the most amount of - tea bags, boxes of cereal and cans of beans you've ever seen!!! The challenge was this - Get the stash up to the third floor and........ stack like a game of Tetis (we added that last one ourselves).
Ross, Chris and Isabelle were sergeants at arms, sorting the stair-run team and lifting some heavy stacks on their own as well!! Bobbie, Ngam and Polly got stuck in straight away, no newbie jitters, just straight up the stairs and became queens of the cereal stack!
In between stair-runs were cleaning shifts as well. Rasi and his broom, Dan and his spritzer, Claire and her mop and Sadhana and her plate washing. We blitzed that dining hall like there was no tomorrow, Mr Sheen would have been proud!!
As the task continued, we marvelled at the amount of stock there was and trips up the stairs there were left!! In fact......The tea-bag collection was one so large that it "brewed" wonderment in us all!!
To keep the gang working hard, there were interval splits intermixed. Lunges, table press-ups and tricep dips, followed by the "Bean Stack Challenge" - Hold a plank for as long as you can with tins of beans stacked on your back!!!! You know because that's just the normal way to spend a Monday night...... Pump- ing Iron (for non northerners out there a pump is a fart........pardon the pun. ha ha ha )
After a fully exhausted crew were done with the sort, we said our goodbyes and headed back into the night. What was once a chilly eve, was now a hot and sweaty affair. We charged our way back down the High Road towards our base camp and to a happy and fulfilled end to the night.
With an awesome crew of GoodGymers and a fantastic task for a worthy cause, we left feeling, like Tony the Tiger ..........GRRREEEEAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT
Until next time.
DO GOOD. FEEL GOOD. INSPIRE.
