Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
Early on a drizzly, grey, Sunday morning, four intrepid (and very tired) GoodGym runners made their way to the historic site of the eighteenth century Everton Lock-up, also known as Prince Rupert’s Tower, on Everton Brow.
Sam, Kira, Mat and Pauline were tasked with tagging and storing bags for 400+ runners. It was the day of the inaugural Everton in the Community, If You Know Your History 5k Run, jog or walk event.
Runners queued to get autographs and shake hands with Everton legends Joe Royal and Duncan Ferguson, to name but two.
Whilst Mat and Sam headed off to the finish line for the second phase of the task, Kira and Pauline headed to the start line...to run the event. A quick change from GoodGym colours to Everton Blue, and they were off.
The route, which took in sites of significant interest and importance in the history of Everton Football Club, made it’s way past Anfield, through Stanley Park, past Goodison Park and finished at the Isla Gladstone Conservatory.
After helping to return bags to the first of the returning runners, Mat set off for his first mission run of the day...well done, Mat
Runners received their medals, t-shirts and goody bags, along with Everton mints distributed by an authentically dressed toffee girl.
Organisers were very pleased with the efforts of volunteers, who helped the event to run smoothly.
A special mention to Jo, who joined the baggage crew after first helping out at the Junior Park Run at Sefton Park. Thanks, Jo
...and a shout out to Sam, who made a new friend, and tried to recruit the first four-legged GoodGym runner...good try, Sam!
